The most common food for birds are seeds. A variety of seeds appeal to specific
species. The black-oil sunflower seed is a popular seed used in bird feeders and is among the favorite feeder foods of cardinals, chickadees, finches, and sparrows.
Did you know that not all birds eat seeds! Suet (beef or mutton fat) is recommended for insect-eating birds like nuthatches and woodpeckers.
Nectar (essentially sugar water) attracts hummingbirds. Bread and kitchen scraps are often fed to ducks and gulls.
